How many times have you heard someone comment that their seven year old child "could have done that," whatever the artwork might be?

I've made similar comments. And then I realized that while I might have the full capability of scribbling a few lines that look like a figure or erratically dripping paint over a canvas, I didn't. And then when I started doing I realized that there are so many more factors to art than the product. As an artist there is process, inspiration, finding one's creative methods, growing projects out of other projects, decisions, discernment, ideas, technical skill, etc, etc, etc that must be considered and determined. In the "art world" its timing, audience perception, buyers' perception, location, connections, promotion, etc, etc, etc..

Your seven year old might have been able to do that but they didn't.

I could have done a lot of things, but I haven't.

That has changed.
I produce and blow smoke.

I am pursuing prolific.

The moon was full last night.

The air and light were cooling nectar to my soul.

I was there. 

It changed me. 

I took a few pictures.

I was born under a full moon.

There is something about her that is so mesmerizing and captivating.

I see the moon.

The moon sees me.

Very close friends of mine said 'farewell' to one of their very close friends the weekend before last. A mother should never have to bury her child. This is not what we were meant for.

Ode to the Young & the Restless, From The Late Bloomer.

I keep hearing that we all have to grow up by ourselves. No matter how many people are around us, we still feel alone during these--dare I say those?--difficult years. Still, we feel like we had to figure it out alone.

Maybe it is--was--better for us to grow up with our person and intentions clouded by misunderstanding and thus forsake the illusion of being comprehended.

These are important years. Your heart is important. So is your joy. Your hope.
pain. struggle. loneliness. all of these things create so much beauty and life and resilience--like damage to a tree makes for the most exquisite grains. More importantly- all of this makes for the source of you. Don't ever give You up and don't forget to fight for it. This is a time of discovery and experimentation. Learn how to communicate yourself; explore outside of your box. Stand tall. Breathe deep. Salute the Sun rising, racing to produce a fraction of the beauty she creates before setting in an array of color. Find the source of your light and never let it go.

Give yourself and your circumstances the credit they deserve. It will all pay off.
Keep your head up, that smile big, and the accent true. You will make it through this. And no, no one will ever understand...but that's the where the strength of your pain is.

Having Arrived Upon a New Chapter

Did not know if I was going to make it.


It was a feeling like I have never had before. Similar to that of Winona Ryder's character when she escaped Claymoore in Girl, Interrupted (1999).

My whole family came in town. They stayed on the historical Delta Queen. Alaska and Jer traveled to be there, too.
Camping that night was classic. The minuscule ticks that we found all over the next morning were not, however.



I feel some sunshine on my face for the first time in a while; perhaps it is from the light at the end of the tunnel. Exciting feeling of being pushed out of the nest where I flustered and exhausted myself for the last four years; now I am too tired to fly.

Thus the wind has carried me to a resting place near Nashville where I can spin my cocoon and rest. Cutting ties, setting goals, breathing deeply, starting an adventure fund, marrying off a best friend, unifying the split personalities I have developed, train for sprint triathlon, and exploring different media...

This is a start. This is my time.





Oh- and getting a car since I seem to be experimenting with spontaneous combustion. Thankfully, though my entire portfolio and all of my artwork was in the backseat, nothing was damaged.
